Centennial Bluff is backed by the experience of an executive team of master builders and highly experienced real estate specialists. Bruce Matzel, CEO of Brandywine Lifestyle Communities partnered with award winning Atlanta builders, Brunning & Stang to design East Tennessee’s first lifestyle community for people age 55 or over.

All of his life, Bruce Matzel has been an enthusiastic believer and achiever. He built his first new home in 1970. After the success of that home, from 1970 to 1979 he built approximately 200 more homes. At that time, he changed his focus to the hospitality business and began to build motels and hotels. He still retains ownership of the first motel he built in 1980. It was at this time he met Roger Mumford who became his partner within a year.

In 1985 Matzel & Mumford Organization was formed in Central New Jersey. Through one of the worst times in history for the building industry, October 1987 through 1991, Matzel and Mumford defied the odds and built a very unique program to build and sell homes through those difficult years. This program became very successful for Matzel & Mumford.

In 1992 Ernst & Young asked to sponsor Matzel & Mumford for “Entrepreneur of the Year” for their outstanding achievements from 1987 through 1991. Matzel & Mumford competed with very strong and distinguished dot com companies for the award. The outcome resulted in Matzel & Mumford being recognized as the highly esteemed “Entrepreneur of the Year”.

Matzel & Mumford instituted a philosophy created by the two principal owners, Bruce and Roger. The philosophy motivated every employee in the company to help them achieve their goals. The ultimate goal was to sell the Matzel & Mumford Organization to a public company. The commitment, drive and skills of over 100 dedicated managers and employees helped Bruce and Roger achieve their goal. In December 1999, Matzel & Mumford was sold to K. Hovnanian, a publicly held company.

Geoff Brunning and Ray Stang are noted residential builders with a passion for quality architecture, site design and sound construction practices. Building together for most of the last 30 years, they incorporate the knowledge and experience gained from projects completed in Atlanta and the Southeastern US, as well as international developments in England, Australia and the Caribbean.

For both clients and on its own account, Brunning & Stang typically manages over $50 million in construction each year, with each project carefully designed to be contextually compatible with its surroundings. Brunning & Stang has completed developments in the fields of urban redevelopment, adaptive re-use, historic preservation, custom single-family, townhouses and condominiums. It is the Brunning & Stang attention to detail in architecture and design that resulted in the company being recognized by the Atlanta Urban Design Commission with an Award for Excellence-New Construction, the Institute of Classical Architecture with a Philip Trammel Shutze Award and an Exceptional Merit Award for Context Sensitive Neighborhood Infill Design from the Livable Communities Coalition and the Atlanta Regional Commission, all due to its development in the Inman Park Historic District of Atlanta.
